Luz Herrera
Luz Adriana is a Colombian who arrived in Winnipeg in May 2023 with her husband and her dog, Martina. Her passion for understanding conflict and violence brought her to Canada to pursue a Master's degree in Peacebuilding and Collaborative Development at CMU. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science and has experience working with victims of armed conflict, youth, indigenous, and black communities in Colombia. She had the opportunity to work with the United Nations to develop a risk monitoring system within the framework of the peace and transitional justice agreement in Colombia, aiming to prevent violent events and keep a record of violent actions occurring in the post-conflict period.
Luz ended up at ICYA through Jenn Mason, whom she met at an Indigenous Symposium held in Winnipeg in the summer of 2023. She currently works as a Community Host, supporting the administrative team and assisting them with whatever they may need.
Luz enjoys taking long walks with Martina, writing, and discovering new music. She is passionate about meeting new people and learning from them.
